Dancing Around The Hard Stuff

dancing around the hard stuff

Every day our society tends to more and more call good evil and evil good. And the Church community is continuing to dance around the hard stuff.

We live in a society where no one seems to be ashamed of sin anymore. And as a matter of fact, that which God has declared to be sin is disputed even in our churches.

No one wants to believe that truth is objective. Or maybe I should say secular society thinks that truth is relevant.

Everybody wants to believes that their truth is the truth. Or whatever makes them comfortable is accepted as truth.

Jesus said that he is the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father but by him.

We attend church daily, weekly, nightly and we danced around the heart of the hard issues.

You probably didn’t see that coming huh?

We don’t talk about homosexuality, we only say that it’s a sin and we don’t deal with the issues that people are struggling with head-on.

Homosexuality is in the church. It’s a shame that most of us as believers don’t believe that people can be delivered from homosexuality.

Heterosexual men in the Church and men in this secular society have had homosexual thoughts and tendencies. And for the most part, those thoughts and tendencies will remain hidden.

Homosexuality is a sin that touches every family just as drug addictions and other crippling sins.

I love the church congregation that God planted me in… However, though… I’m afraid we too are not dealing with the issues of today as we should.

We have a tendency to want to tackle the issues such as the drug addictions, alcoholism and such like crippling sins. Which needs to be done…

But we don’t want to tackle sins like homosexuality, transgenderism, lesbianism and other such like issues.

As a matter of fact, there are many people in the church that have to deal with inordinate affections as the Bible calls it.

The Church is For the Sick

There are tons of reasons why folks can justify why they don’t attend church on a regular basis.

However, here is what the Bible says about attending church…Hebrews 10:25.

Some people have stopped going regularly to our Christian meetings, but we must not stop going there.”

That translation comes out of the Easy English version of the Bible. That’s as plain as it can get.

But why should we go to Church?

Well, if we keep reading through the verse we get the answer as the writer tells us…

Then we can help each other to be strong Christians. You should do this more and more because the *Lord’s great day is coming. You know that the *Lord will return soon.”

My dear friend, we need each other and that’s the way God ordained it to be.

I personally got back into going to church because I was sick in soul and spirit. Yet it gets a lot deeper than that.

I won’t go into it that in this article though…

But what I will say is that we need to stop trying to be so politically correct and began to tackle the hard issues that our society is struggling with.

That thought leads me to this particular topic. The topic of pornography in the church.

We Gloss over Pornography

Here’s a thought that came to me. “If she’s not your wife it’s porn.”

So what is this saying? I’m glad you asked…

It means that if you or I  indulge in nude photos of any sort and we are not married to the woman or girl for that matter… it’s still looking at porn.

So you say what if it’s my fiancee? Hmmmm. Great question. It’s still porn.

On a side note: If the Holy Spirit lives in us whatever we put our eyes on we force him to take part in it as well.

Listen, take it from me… Like I said about justifying not going to church, we can attempt to justify everything we do.

There’s a great book that was published a few years back by these men of God. Stephen Arterburn, Fred Stoeker with Mike Yorkey.

The book is ” Every Man’s Battle.” The books subtitled… “Winning The War On Sexual Temptation.”

The sin of pornography is every man’s battle. And for some women also.

We are inundated with pornography at every turn… It’s all over the internet, television even at the grocery store checkout.

It was a time when porn was only found on porn websites, or in magazines strictly for publishing it.

Now you and I bombarded with pornography on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat etc;

I have even had my social media friends share unsolicited pornography with me and I’m sure you have as well.

I must emphasize unsolicited…

Listen, just as the book is titled pornography is every man’s battle and it hard to fight against. Yet the battle can be won.

It’s Still a Closed Door Conversation.

Come on in and close the door behind you because I don’t want anyone to hear me.

Have you ever said that to anyone?

That’s kinda how the church is today… At least that’s how we are partly perceived.

The hush attitude doesn’t help anyone.

We go to church because we need help not because it’s a place where everyone has it all together. But unfortunately, that’s the perception that we display.

I personally don’t have it all together, but I know someone who does and that person is Jesus.

If not for the grace of the Lord Jesus you and I are capable of the most disturbing crimes.

There’s a prayer that I love that’s found in Psalm 19:12-13.

12  Who can discern his own errors? Cleanse me from my hidden faults.

13  Keep Your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless and cleansed of great transgression.

The word of God also teaches us that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23.

Listen, friend, there’s is not a church-going saint that does not fit that description. No, not one.

But what we do have is an advocate with the Father… Christ Jesus the one who nailed my sins to the cross of his death.

But not just my sins he did that for everyone else that believe on his name for salvation.

So what do we do with homosexuality, lesbianism, transgenderism, inordinate affections, pornography and such like sins and behavior?

Well…

It’s Time to Open The Doors of The Church Again.

For too long the doors of the church have been closed to those that don’t look like us.

We haven’t been proper stewards of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

But how do we step out of our comfort zones and began to allow the love of God to flow from us?

Here’s what comes to mind…

The Bible tells us that God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

What that means is that we must take that power of love and peace to a world that needs it more than ever.

We must without fear and with sound minds began to distribute the gospel of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit remembering that God has promised that his word will never return void.

The Apostle Paul admonishes that one man will sow and another will water but it is God that will bring the increase

We must preach the word in season and out of season and leave the consequences to God.

Jesus Went about doing Good.

Acts 10:38 should be our desire. Here is what it says about the Lord Jesus.

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

So how do we make applications in our lives concerning this?

Before I elaborate let me just say that this is the part that the Church has been failing at. And when I say Church… I include myself as well.

We preach a good word or we put forth great admonitions but we lack showing people how to apply the principles of God in their every day lives.

So just how would Acts 10:38 look in the life of a follower of Jesus?

First Things Must Always Be First.

Seeing that first thing must always be first let’s break this verse down bit by bit so to speak.

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

1. We see first the “How God”… We must remember that everything must and will start with God.

Also, it’s a must that we recognize that God is in control and that without him we can do nothing John 15:5.

2. It’s God who anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power.

So, how does this apply to us? Great question because it applies to us in very much the same way.

But let me give you a verse to show you how. Acts 1:4-5

We read in our Bibles that Jesus told his disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Holy Spirit.

We also read in Acts 2:4 how the disciples of Jesus received the promise of God and were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to preach the wonderful words of God as the Spirit gave the utterance.

3. We understand that it is the Holy Spirit that guides us and gives is the power to go about doing good.

Can people do good deeds and not be filled with the Holy Spirit? Of course, they can… but what’s the motivation behind the deed? That’s the important question.

Now let’s look at…

4. The not only going about doing good but also administering healing to those that are oppressed by the devil.

I’m afraid we don’t see this as a part of our modern day ministry. I’m talking about the healing of those that are oppressed by the devil part.

How Did Jesus Do it?

So, you want to know how Jesus healed those that were oppressed by the devil huh?

Well, we find the answer to that in Acts 10:38 as well. It reads like this…

…for God was with him.

You see it starts with God and it all ends with God. The author and finisher of our faith.

Let’s take a look at how the Lord Jesus defeated the devil and brought healing in the lives of many.

The Healing Power of Jesus

How did he do it? Here are a few passages that answer the question of how Jesus cast out demons.

Luke 4:35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him and hurt him not.

Mark 5:8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

Matthew 8:32 And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine:

Mark 9:25

When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

These are just a few places in the Bible where we find Jesus taking authority over the devil and his demons.

The question still remains… How did he do it?

He did it the same way that he expects you and me as followers of God in Christ to do it.

Through faith in his name. By the spoken word of God.

Listen, I don’t believe that we have to shout, jump up and down or put on any type of theatrical performance to cast out demons.

Jesus simply told us that these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

He also went further to say… They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Maybe if we started taking God at his word we could do more for the world in which we live.

Most of us are guilty of not being good stewards of the grace of God that has been given unto us.

Maybe it’s time we start.

In Conclusion

To all peoples of the world of every tribe, tongue, and nation please forgive those of us who have not allowed you to experience the love and grace of Jesus.

The same love and the same grace that has been granted to us, he wants to give to you.

So please consider giving us another opportunity to embrace you right where you are… Just as the Lord our God embraced and accepted us even when we were dead in our trespasses and sins.

Come to Jesus. He waits for you even if you struggle with homosexuality, pornography, lesbianism, inordinate affections, transgenderism.

The doors of the Church are open again.
